The fact that many people didn't show up for booster vaccines at some centres last week was initially met with surprise, given the fact that most people want to get the jab as soon as possible

A Roscommon GP says he believes the majority of "no-shows" to vaccination centres for booster vaccines simply hadn't been able to cancel their appointment.

Dr Greg Kelly who's based in Castlerea in Roscommon says a lot of people are now attending their GP, or the chemists, for the vaccine booster, because they don't want to travel long distances to the centres.

Dr Kelly was speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon following the revelation that more than half of the appointments made for boosters last week went to waste.

Some people have reported that they received multiple appointments.

The Castlerea GP says he's also learned from personal experience, that it has been extremely difficult to try to contact the HSE to cancel appointments that are not needed.
