Carrick-on-Shannon Chamber of Commerce is rejecting calls for a bylaw to be introduced to ban street-drinking in the town. Two local activists, Leslie O'Hora and Veronica Kelly, claimed it's needed to deal with unruly behaviour at weekends.

Councillors considered introducing this bylaw several years ago, after a spike in incidents linked to the night-time economy. But they decided against it - and Chamber President and Fine Gael councillor, Finola Armstrong McGuire, says it shouldn't be revisited:
