The matter was made at a recent meeting of Longford Council.

Longford County Council must provide a site to the IDA as a matter of urgency according to a local councillor.

Seamus Butler told the January meeting of the council that the issue has been discussed over the last number of years with little progress made.

The Fianna Fail representative described Longford as a key location for the development of an advanced manufacturing facility.

The meeting heard that the local authority is due to meet with IDA executives in the coming weeks to discuss the 4 strategic local sites.

Councillor Butler told Shannonside FM news that one of these sites is already in council ownership and must be put forward as the preferred option:

'''They say now they're still committed to Longford but our understanding is that Longford County Council has to provide a service site for them to move into, if they have to get into land acquisition it'll be another 12-18 months to do it but they want something that's ready to go, that they can erect their standard advanced facility. We need the employment in Longford, other counties are getting it, the IDA have given a commitments and I think the County Council has to step up to the plate on the matter.''
