The Cavan native succeeds Archbishop Michael Neary, who served in the role for the past 26 years.

Francis Duffy was appointed as Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise in July of 2013 and said he was surprised and humbled to take up a new role in the west of Ireland.
