Bishop of Elphin urges calm as community comes to terms with shooting dead of garda Colm Horkan

Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran says the death of Detective Garda Colm Horkan has caused outrage in the area.

Kevin Doran is speaking as communities in West Roscommon come to terms with the shooting dead of Garda Dectective Colm Horkan in Castlerea on Wednesday night.

A man in his 40s remains in garda custody this morning in connection with the incident.

But he's urging people not to let their anger boil over.

Former Leitrim manager John o'Mahoney coached Colm when he was a Mayo U21 manager in the early 1990s.

The GAA was among of a number of groups who paid tribute to the Charlestown clubman fowling his death on Thursday.

The Ballagahdereen businessman says the 49-year-old's death is devastating.
