Bishop Duffy says public health guidelines must be followed for sacraments

Opinions on whether or not to hold Communions and Confirmations this month despite public health advice to the contrary has caused division inside and outside the church

Public health guidelines must be followed when it comes to communions and confirmations according to a local Bishop.

Bishop Francis Duffy of the Ardagh & Clonmacnois Diocese says the protection of health and life comes first in the face of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Bishop Duffy released a statement today urging parishes to observe the current guidelines and to wait until the appropriate time to hold the sacraments.

Meanwhile Bishops across the country including several in the Shannonside Northern Sound region have stated that they will resume communions and confirmations despite government advice.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show today, Bishop Duffy says its up to each Bishop to make the decision on what is right for their diocese.
