The market will be held once a month on a trial basis near the town library.

The organisers behind a new covered public amenity space in Ballymahon are seeking craftspeople and producers to join them in setting up a new artisan market for the town.

Work has now been finished on a covered market area in Ballymahon beside the  town's library, with a call now being made to local sellers to use the facility.

The Ballymahon Town team are urging producers, craftspeople and stall holders to help them form the event, which will be held monthly on a trial basis.

The group , say the project is ready to get off the ground with the establishment of a sub-committee to oversee the running of the market.

Niall Dowler from the town team says they're looking for a group of like-minded people to take it to the next stage:

"So we are now at a stage where we are ready to get the market up and going and off the ground.

It just took a little longer to get it off the ground as we encountered a few problems with insurance and stuff like that.

Now, what we are trying to do is to establish a sub-committee for the running of this artisan market. The Town Team has taken it to our last level and we want to hand it over to a sub-committee, ideally, that would be run by those involved in the market selling their own products."
