Funding to complete an off-road walking trail between Drumlish and Ballinamuck in north Longford is being warmly welcomed by a local amenity group.

Half a million euro was allocated to the project this week under the latest round of funding under the National Outdoor Recreation Strategy.

The section also features as part of the north Longford Rebel Trail.

Patsy Brady from Ballinamuck Enhancement group says it's a major development for the area and will bring huge benefits for everyone

"Well it was a great amenity for the Drumlish end of the parish because it got people off the road, young and old needed to get out for a walk. It's a fabulous amenity that is used on a regular basis and now with the announcement the other day, with money becoming available for the rest of it from Monaduff to Ballinamuck, it's just fabulous, fabulous for the area".
