Leitrim County Council's decision to allow the development of 35 new homes in Ballinamore has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

Remcoll 2 Limited is the company that owns Rock Quarter in the town, which currently houses asylum seekers.

It was granted permission last month to build 18 two-bedroom apartments, 2 two-bedroom houses and 15 three-bedroom houses in three two-storey terraced blocks at Cannaboe, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim across the road from Rock Quarter.

Over 50 submissions were made on the planning application to Leitrim County Council with many referring to concerns over a lack of demand for local housing .

An Bord Pleanala is due to make a decision on the matter in the New Year, by January 28th.
