The average household income needed to purchase a house in the Shannonside region now stands at almost €50,000. The latest geodirectory report shows that Longford, Leitrim, and Roscommon are among the most affordable counties to buy in. According to the release, rent prices across the country were significantly cheaper than the average mortgage repayments at the end of last year. The total average rent across Ireland stood at €1,574, while the average mortgage repayment was €1,824. The report also shows that the 3 counties in the Shannonside region required the lowest average income to purchase a house, as well as some of the lowest rent prices nationally.

An average household income of €51,413 was needed to purchase a house in Roscommon last year, the highest nationally. In Longford, the average required income stood at €46,606, while in Leitrim, the average income needed was €45,968. These were also the 3 lowest figures nationally. The average rent price in the 3 counties in the middle of last year, according to the RTB, was €925, with Leitrim being the cheapest place in the country to rent at just €879. Rents in Dún-Laoghaire-Rathdowen were the highest nationally at an average of €2,371.
