The route for a new by-pass of the town of Carrick-on-Shannon has been a bone of contention since it was first motted last year

Residents in the Attirory and Cortober areas of Carrick-on-Shannon are digesting the news today that they could end up living beside a busy national road.

Letters were sent out to 700 householders in the two townlands today informing them they're on the preferred route for the N4 by pass of the town.

Conor King who's Chairperson of the Glas Na hAbhainn residents association says they are dismayed at the plans and the uncertainty which they bring.
