Athlone teacher enters race for Westmeath council seat

The decision will be made at the end of the month.

A fourth candidate has expressed her interest in contesting the vacant seat on Westmeath County Council following the resignation of former councillor Jamie Moran.

Sarah Seoige, a secondary school teacher in Athlone said on Twitter at the weekend that she has put her name forward for the seat.

She joins former councillor and TD Kevin Boxer Moran, former councillor Paul Hogan and Irena Djak Cvetkovic, who was also a former councillor in her native Serbia.

It's understood that the Corporate Policy Group of Westmeath County Council will meet later this week to decide the process of how the seat will be filled.

The new councillor is due to be formally approved at the monthly meeting of Westmeath Council on Monday next the 24th of this month.
