Athlone LEAs revealed as recording region's highest Covid incidence rate

Over 100 cases have been recorded in the two Athlone M.d's in Westmeath and Roscommon in the last fortnight

The town of Athlone, on both sides of the River Shannon, has the highest Covid incidence rate in the Shannonside region.

New figures from the Covid hub reveal that 41 cases were recorded in the Athlone-Roscommon M.D in the last fortnight.

It's Covid incidence rate is 205.2 - above the national average of 131.7. Its neighbouring M.D in Westmeath has recorded 68 cases in the last two weeks - resulting in a Covid rate of 299.7.

Elsewhere  27 Covid cases have been recorded in the Roscommon town M.D and ten in the Boyle M.D.

In Longford, the Ballymahon M.D recorded 26 cases in the last two weeks resulting in an incidence rate of 183   while 20 cases were recorded in the Longford town LEA and fewer than five in Granard's M.D.

Leitrim's Covid rate remains among the lowest in the country - with six cases confirmed in the LEA of  Ballinamore, five in Carrick-on-Shannon's M.D and fewer than five confirmed in Manorhamilton.
