Tradesmen living in and around Athlone are being warned to be extra careful about securing their vans.
The warning comes after several thousand euro worth of tools were taken from three vans in Monksland and Moate last Friday evening,
In all of the cases, holes were drilled in the doors of the vans to gain easy access and a black Volkswagen Passat was noticed being driven in a suspicious manner near where one of the thefts took place.

Sgt Andrew Haran says people working in the trades need to do all they can to try and protect their livelihoods as they can be very badly hit in this kind of incident.
