Athlone Community Radio manager seeking vacant council seat

Irena thinks people who are not typically represented will get their voice heard.

A new contender for a vacant seat on Westmeath County Council says she will give a voice to people traditionally not represented in local government.

Irena Djak Cvetkovic is the manager of Athlone Community Radio and is seeking co-option to the council seat vacated by Jamie Moran.

Former TD Boxer Moran and former local Councillor Paul Hogan are also in the running.

Irena Djak Cvetkovic moved to Ireland over 20 years ago from Serbia, where she served as a local councillor at age 23.

Her efforts to join the council will be supported in the chamber by Green Party Councillor Louise Heavin.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, the Athlone woman says, if elected, she would seek more council support for local community groups:
