The new €20 million iRos sports facility in Roscommon town has been given the green light by local councillors.
The project has been given the green light by councillors following a meeting of Roscommon Municipal District this morning.
It was proposed by Cllr Larry Brennan and seconded by Cllr Michael Holland.
The Council plans to redevelop and extend the existing Roscommon Leisure Centre, which is located opposite Áras an Chontae.
It will include the development of an indoor sports hall, gym, outdoor football pitches, an area for pétanque, and outdoor play park.
The development has been backed by local groups, including Roscommon Leader Partnership and Roscommon Town Team.
Mercy College Roscommon principal, Miriam Hunt, also made a submission, expressing the school's support for the project.
