Appeal to drivers to slow down after motorist detected travelling at 164 km on N5

A driver has been detected doing a speed of 164 kilometres an hour in a 100 km zone on the N5 in Roscommon.

They were discovered at a checkpoint set up by members of the Roscommon policing unit on the route and gardai say proceedings will follow.

Gardai are appealing to motorists to slow down as figures show a high number of road deaths so far this year despite the huge decrease in traffic volumes.
