The animal was found by volunteers yesterday ina very distressed state

Animal activists have expressed shock after a collie dog was dumped in a bog in Roscommon yesterday; beside what is believed to be the bodies of other dogs.

Volunteers with Roscommon SPCA rushed to the incident which was reported on Thursday afternoon between Castlerea and Ballymoe by a woman out for a walk in the area.

The dog was found beside a dirty duvet and a bowl of water as well as a crate submerged in a water hole nearby which it is suggested may contain the bodies of other dogs, or perhaps puppies.

The collie was removed from the scene and later discovered to have a significant infection and Roscommon SPCA says that the incident was especially cruel on the dog and very upsetting for its volunteers.

Bridget Bannon is a volunteer with the Roscommon SPCA and she told the Joe Finnegan Show that the dog really didn't want to leave the area :
