Anger in Athlone over defibrillator vandalism and theft

The AED was first damaged earlier that morning before being removed hours later.

Local Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the damage and theft of an Athlone defibrillator.

The Automatic Emergency Defibrillator at Cunningham's Pharmacy on the Dublin Rd was damaged and subsequently taken from its dock at 4am on Wednesday morning.

The Athlone Emergency Defibrillators group has condemned the theft and is urging those involved to return the AED immediately.

Gardaí are currently investigating the incident and have called on anyone with any information to contact Athlone Garda Station.

Local Councillor and chair of the Defib group, John Dolan, says any interference with a defibrillator is a threat to someone's life:
