Almost half a million euro worth of drugs seized in Athlone

Almost half a million euro worth of illicit drugs has been seized in Athlone.

Officers seized 20.1 kilograms of herbal cannabis and over 45,000 Benzodiazepine tablets at premises in Athlone yesterday.

The drugs were discovered in parcels originating from Spain, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, and were destined for addresses in Counties Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow.

Separately, in Dublin, there was contraband worth €400,000 seized by Revenue.

These seizures included over 19kgs of herbal cannabis.
