The former stations will be re-purposed as community facilities.

Almost 100,000 euro in funding has been announced for the re-purposing of three former Garda Stations across the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

In Roscommon, 49,950 euro has been allocated to stations in Ballintubber and Tarmonbarry - which will be developed into multi-purpose community facilities.

Meanwhile, Manorhamilton in Leitrim received 44,100 euro for development work on an outdoor public and cultural exchange space in the town.

A further 50,000 euro has been awarded to Mooney's Hall in Blacklion in Cavan to be upgraded into a community and remote working hub.

Tarmonbarry Councillor Tom Crosby believes the regeneration of the former Garda station in the village will have a positive impact on the community.

He says plans are progressing on the use for the building with a large number of voluntary groups working in the area.
