The current bed capacity is 340 at Castlerea prison, with inmates taking up 109% of the overall beds available.

14 prisoners are presently on temporary release, which varies from full temporary release to reviewable community return under the supervision of probation service.
Plans have been announced for 4 capital projects at Castlerea, Cloverhill, Midlands and Mountjoy prisons to deliver a maximum of 620 additional spaces.
