Issues with staffing are being highlighted as an issue in allocating appointments.

149 children are currently waiting on occupational therapy appointments in Roscommon.

Figures presented to this month's meeting of the Western Regional Health Forum anticipate that the majority of the waiting list will be contacted for an initial screening call early next year.

In a response to a question raised by local Councillor Tony Ward it was confirmed that 36 children are waiting on appointments in the south Roscommon area, while 113 are on the list in the rest of the county.

Staff shortages are one of the issues that have led to the waiting lists, with Community Health Care West now in the process of recruiting staff across multiple disciplines.

Members of the local Children's Disability Network have confirmed a more detailed intervention timeline for those on waiting lists will be available in the new year.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Councillor Ward says these figures only scratch the surface of the backlog.
