Aid appealed for Turkey Syrian earthquake by Leitrim resident

The Leitrim resident says people are dealing with a disaster of huge proportions.

A Leitrim resident says a rising homelessness crisis has been triggered by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The death toll from last week's disaster is nearing 44,000.

Ros O ' Sullivan who is Head of Emergency Operations with Concern is appealing to Irish people for help.

The agency is already providing food, blankets, and clothing to those affected.

The Leitrim resident says people are dealing with a disaster of huge proportions.

A fundraising event to provide aid for those affected by the earthquake will be held at 11 o'clock in St Joseph's Hall in Leitrim Village this Sunday.

'26 million people, a staggering amount of people have been affected.

We have below zero temperatures at night, people are living in cars and  they are huddled around fires because they have lost their homes. 

It's either collapsed or in many cases its so badly damaged that they cannot return to it '
