Additional Roscommon LIS funding described as "insult" to county

The South Roscommon Councillor thinks the money will not go very far.

There has been a mixed reaction to additional funding announced for the Shannonside region for Local Improvements Schemes.

A total of €393,041 has been allocated for repairs and improvement works on non-public roads in rural communities in Longford.

Leitrim is to receive €234,000 under the scheme to bring its total to just over €503,000.

However, Roscommon Councillor Tony Ward has described the additional funding for the county as an "insult".

Just €70,000 extra has been allocated to the county for works that must be completed before the end of the year to bring the county's total to €445,495.

He says the money will make very little impact locally:
