20 refugees move into former Athlone nursing home

Those who moved into the centre today were two fathers, five mothers and 13 children.

A total of 20 refugees moved into the former Stella Maris nursing home in Athlone today.

The Department of Integration yesterday confirmed up to 60 international protection applicants would be accommodated there.

A protest was held outside the facility in Baylough yesterday, which was attended by around 80 people.

The facility closed as a nursing home in 2022.
