80% of all victims of sexual violence in Ireland in 2019 were women

In one in five cases of detected sexual violence in 2019, both the victim and suspected offender were under 18.

CSO figures show almost all of the suspected offenders were male at 99 percent.

The central statistics office has today published the latest figures on the age and sex of both victims and suspected offenders of serious crimes recorded by Gardai.

There were 32 male and 6 female victims of murder or manslaughter in Ireland last year. Four out of five victims of sexual violence crimes reported by Gardai in 2020 were women and girls.

In one in five cases of detected cases of sexual violence which was reported in 2019, both the victim and suspected offender were under 18 at the time of the offence. Almost all, 99 per cent of suspected offenders of sexual violence that year were men.
