1st Holy Communions should be delayed until Autumn according to local Bishop

According to the Bishop of Elphin, 1st Holy Communion should be a meaningful experience for children and not just a one-day occasion.

A local Bishop is calling for families with young children to return to mass before receiving their first Holy Communion or Confirmations.

Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran says that children who missed the opportunity last year and who are due to take part this year should return to mass first following services being closed to the public for the past several months.

He believes First Holy Communions and Confirmations should be delayed until the autumn to allow the public to return to mass following the lockdown.

According to Bishop Doran, in many cases, children have not attended mass since the pandemic began due to the virus.
