Nationally, 791 incidents of aggressive behaviour were recorded in 2022, leading to 308 injuries.

Nineteen people were injured in dog attacks in the Shannonside Northern Sound region last year.

Figures released by the government on the control of dogs show 54 incidents of aggressive behaviour were reported locally in 2022.

Monaghan saw the highest amount in the region, with 24 reports of aggressive behaviour leading to 8 people sustaining injury or damage to clothes from a dog attack in 2022.

That's followed by Cavan, where 15 incidents were recorded and four people sustained an injury.

Three people in Longford last year notified Longford County Council about a dog attack, with one person injured, followed by three people in Leitrim suffering a wound in six incidents.

Roscommon saw the lowest number of dog attacks last year at just one, however it to resulted in an injury or damage to clothes.
