15-year-old boy dies after getting into difficulty in Lough Ree

Gardaí and emergency services responded after receiving reports of the incident at Lough Ree, off Carnakilla Point, in Glasson, Co. Westmeath, shortly after 7:30pm.

A 15-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in the water at Lough Ree yesterday evening.
Gardaí and emergency services responded after receiving reports of the incident at Lough Ree, off Carnakilla Point, in Glasson, Co. Westmeath, shortly after 7:30pm.

The young male was recovered from the water following a search operation and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was removed to the mortuary at Mullingar Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
A file will be prepared for the Coroner.
