One in seven primary school classes in Co Leitrim have more than 30 children. Education Minister Helen McEntee says, at the end of the school term, there were 24 classes in Leitrim, 15 in Longford, and 23 in Roscommon, with over 30 kids. This is 14 per cent of classes in Leitrim, and 6 per cent in both Longford and Roscommon.
The national average is 23 pupils per class. Leitrim councillor James Gilmartin says the figures for his county are very disappointing:
