St. Croans crowned Roscommon junior champions

Croans see off Ballinameen

A nine point victory over Ballinameen in Strokestown secured their return to Intermediate football and the Roscommon junior title.

Peter Keane opened the scoring for Ballinameen after two minutes.

The Croans response was strong as they hit four unanswered points, coming through Aidan Brogan, Cathal Connelly and Alan Conroy.

The all-important goal came after 11 minutes. Cathal Connelly reacted first to find the back of the Ballinameen net.

The ever reliable Dessie Carlos stepped up to respond for Ballinameen when he got the opening two pointer of the afternoon after 19 minutes.

Dessie Carlos and Ross Timothy traded scores for both sides as the game approached half-time.

At half-time St. Croans held a five point lead on a score line of 1-7 to 0-5.

Alan Conroy opened the scoring for Croans in the second half-before Eoin Collins raised the orange flag. As Croans moved into an eight point lead after 41 minutes.

A Thomas McGrath effort was tipped over as Ballinameen got a much needed score to open their account for the second-half on 47 minutes.

Keith Muldoon, Aidan Brogan and Cathal Connelly all added further points for St. Croans as they clinched the junior title in Strokestown this afternoon.

St. Croans running put nine point winners on a score line of 1-13 to 0-7.
