Roscommon triumph in Nicky Rackard cup final

Goals proved to be crucial as Roscommon beat Mayo to claim the 2025 Nicky Rackard Cup in Croke Park.

It was the favourites Mayo that made the better start to the game, opening up a six-point lead inside the opening 15 minutes.

However, Kevin Sammon’s side dug in getting themselves back within touching distance through scores from Sean Canning, Finn Killion and Brendan Mulry.

This gave Roscommon the platform they needed to turn the game on its head and that’s exactly what they did. Two goals before half-time, a stunner from Sean Canning into the top corner alongside Brendan Mulry gave Roscommon a three-point lead at the break.

Mayo fought back at the start of the second-half and managed to get themselves back within two points. However, a third Roscommon goal from Robbie Fallon looked to be a sucker punch to the Mayo side.

However, the game was far from won. Mayo’s Eoin Delaney found the back of the net in the 22nd minute of the second-half to get them back within a point.

With the game balanced on a knife edge, the sides traded the lead multiple times in the last 10 minutes; until Roscommon found their winner through Eoin Kiernan in the first minute of stoppage time; sealing the Nicky Rackard title for Kevin Sammon’s side.

Roscommon winning out 3-16 to 1-21.
