The Norio’s Roscommon & district Premier Division is very close as the halfway stage looms.
Defending champions St. Johns Athletic lead and runners-up Moore United are in second place. However, Boyle Celtic and Castlerea Celtic have games in hand, and they are still in contention.
Leaders St. Johns Athletic had a comfortable 5–1 win over Skyvalley Rovers at Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell on Friday night.
Kevin Brennan opened the scoring for St. Johns after six minutes. Tommy Hurley and Cian Kelly added one each before half-time.
Ronan Morris and Daire Keenan completed the scoring for the winners with Brian Croffey replying for Skyvalley.
Moore United had a 6–2 win over Ballymoe F.C at Ballymoe. Andy Hussey gave Moore a 2–0 half-time lead.
Eoin Morgan pulled a goal back within four minutes of the restart. However, Josh Lennon scored one and Charles Nevin three to put Moore in the driving seat.
Damien Goggins added a second for Ballymoe, but it came too late.
Boyle Celtic beat Shiven rovers 5-2 at Newbridge. Michael Corrigan gave Boyle a 1–0 lead after 11 minutes. However, Rory Cunningham had the side’s level at half-time.
David Callaghan and Shane Battles moved Boyle ahead, before Eoin Browne added a second back for Shiven Rovers. David Callaghan and Shane Battles added two more to seal the win for Boyle Celtic.
Castlerea Celtic and Dunmore Town were involved in a real thriller with Castlerea Celtic snatching a winner in injury time.
Josh McCartney gave the hosts an early lead. However, Padraig Martyn and Thomas Byrne had a good Dunmore side in front at the break.
Jay McCartney levelled the game three minutes into the second-half. John Curran landed the winner nine minutes into additional time.
Ballinahown extend division one lead
In Division 1 leaders Ballinahown beat Ballaghaderreen 4–0 at the league grounds Lecarrow.
The sides were well matched in the first-half. However, on 64 minutes, Terry Byrne converted a penalty kick. Terry Byrne, Nemanja Bozic and Cathal Manion confirmed the win.
Ballinahown are now seven points clear at the top of the table with seven games played.
Second placed St. Johns Athletic were beaten 1–0 by an improving Moylough side.
James Fahy scored the only goal of the game early in the second-half. It still required some excellent saves by the Moylough keeper Thomas Shaughnessy to secure all three points.
Cloonfad United boosted their hopes of promotion with a 1-0 win over Ballinasloe Town at Cloonfad. Aidan Sloyan scored the winner after 67 minutes.
Ballyboro and Glen Celtic share the lead of the Killeen’s Sports Grounds Division 2 table following the weekend results.
Division Two round-up
Ballyboro FC welcomed Cloonfad United second side to Lanesboro for their sixth game in the RDFL Division 2.
Both teams played well with Cloonfad’s keeper pulling off some fantastic saves.
Ballyboro were first on the score sheet in the 21st minute with a cracking goal from Jordan Donlon who lobbed the keeper.
The second goal came 10 minutes later with a cracking goal from Jack Murray. Murray added his second three minutes later.
David Rooney added a fourth and Jack Murray completed his hat-trick before the break.
The second-half saw the Ballyboro keeper pull off a string of saves as Ballyboro won out 5-0.
Glen Celtic received a walk over Rahara Rovers.
Ballinagare FC beat Cam Celtic/Dysart 4–2 at Ballinagare. Aaron Dowd scored three and Sam French one for Ballinagare with James Corbett and Garreth Mulligan replying for Celtic/Dysart.
Roscommon United drew 1–1 at home to Moore “B”. Mark Dwyer scored for the hosts and Leo Greene got an equaliser for Moore second side.
Carrick Town beat St Cuans/Ahascragh United 9-2 at Ahascragh.
Simon Leonard scored both goals for the hosts. The Carrick-on-Shannon side scored four in the first-half and added five more after the break.
Narada Patrasco scored their first in the first minute and Fursey Butler scored four and Eoin Hamilton, Dhurcham Abdullrazzaq, Brandon Boyce and Michael Murtagh added one each.
Roscommon Unites B” beat Lough Harps 3 – 2 at Roscommon.
Brian Bermingham gave the Ballinlough side a 1–0 lead. However, Joao Pedro scored two and Robert Hughes one for United. Brian Bermingham adding his second to keep his side in the game until the final whistle.
Women's League Round-up
In the Women’s League, Ballaghaderreen continued their fine run of results with a hard earned 1–0 win over Boyle Celtic at Boyle.
Kayla O’Reilly scored the winner after 15 minutes.
Shiven Rovers beat new side Roscommon United 6–1 at Newbridge. Katie Delaney scored five of their total and Ciara Crehan added the sixth.
The Castlerea Celtic v Carrick Town game was abandoned after a Carrick player was injured.
