FAI Cup junior cup round-up

The second round of the FAI Junior Cup took centre stage last weekend and overall it was a day of mixed fortunes for teams from the Roscommon & District league.

Premier Division Leaders St. Johns Athletic came from 2–0 down to beat Iorras Aontaithe F.C 4–2 after extra-time at Lecarrow.

Playing with the very strong wind the Belmullet side were 1-0 up at half-time and added a second 10 minutes into the second-half.

Ronan Morris pulled a goal back for the hosts with just a minute of normal time remaining.

Daniel Keenal levelled the game in time added-on. In the second period of extra-time Kevin Brennan and Tommy Hurley added two more to secure a place in the third round.

Division 1 side Cloonfad United travelled to the Sligo side Arrow Harps and were beaten 3–1.

Cloonfad never reached the standard of their recent games. They were level at the break but conceded three minutes into the second-half.

Jack Madden had the sides level after 52 minutes. The Riverstown side went in front again five minutes later and sealed the win with a third in injury time.

Premier Side Dunmore Town had a good 2–0 win over the Mayo side Conn Rangers at their Mayo venue.

Padraig Martyn opened the scoring after 22 minutes. Martyn doubled his tally on the hour mark to secure a win.

Moore United travelled to the Sligo Super League side Ballisodare United, overall it was just a really bad day for Moore United.

The sides were level 1–1 at the break thanks to a Jay McPhilbin strike. Whereas, Jack Nevin converted a second-half penalty kick, they gave up long before the end eventually suffering a 9–2 defeat.

Ballinahown progress to the next round

Ballinahown are through to round three after the Mayo side Ballyglass were unable to travel.

Premier side Boyle Celtic were beaten 4–1 by the Sligo side Cartron United at Boyle.

Joshua Gilligan gave the fancied Sligo a lead on the half-hour. Michael Corrigan equalised for Boyle Celtic ten minutes into the second-half.

Donal Gallagher, James Clinton and Stephen Keenan scored for Cartron in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Ballinasloe Town travelled to Crossmolina F.C but were unlucky to lose 2–1 at a windswept ground.

Ryan McCombe gave Ballinasloe Town a 1–0 half-time lead but Deady and Duffy cored for the home side in the second-half.

In the only game played in the Premier Division Ballymoe F.C beat Castlerea Celtic 4–2 in a local derby.

Jay McCartney gave Castlerea Celtic a 1-0 after 15 minutes. Damien Goggins levelled the game sixteen minutes later.

Goggins had Ballymoe in front three minutes into the second-half and he completed his hat-trick five minutes later when he converted a penalty.

Kailin Barlow replied for Castlerea before Shay Morgan sealed all three points with a fourth for Ballymoe with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Kilkerrin United travelled to play Ballaghaderreen but a flooded pitch prevented the game from going ahead much.

In Division 2, Ballyboro FC had a 6–2 win over Ballinagare.

Aidan Dooney struck three times for the Lanesboro side in the opening 12 minutes and he added two more after that.

Jack Murray completed the scoring for Ballyboro with Aaron Dowd and Sam French replying for Ballinagare. The Lough Harps v St. Cuans game was postponed.

Women's round-up

Ballaghaderreen Women’s team are through to the Connacht shield final thanks to an impressive 4–1 win over the Galway side Moyne Villa at Ballaghaderreen.

Playing with a strong wind in the first-half, the hosts took the lead after 18 minutes through Amy Doorey.

However, the Moyne side were quick to respond and levelled the game through Eimear O’Keane a minute later. Rebecca Finan soon had the hosts in front again.

In the second-half playing against a strong wind Grace McDermott and Finan made it 4–1 with 15 minutes remaining.

In the Women’s League Dunmore Town beat new side Roscommon United 5–0 at Roscommon. Aoife Smyth scored two and Ellen Gilmore, Erika Diskin and Lilly Concannon added one each for Dunmore.
