Premier Division Champions St. Johns Athletic stretched their lead at the top of the Premier division table to four points following a hard earned 2–1 win away to Dunmore Town.
Both teams had chances in the first-half, but it took 58 minutes of play before either team found the net.
Dunmore opened the scoring through Padraig Martyn. However, within two minutes Ronan Morris headed a Tommy Hurley free kick to the Dunmore net.
Four minutes later, Daire Keenan gave St. Johns a 2–1 lead, which they held out to take three valuable points.
Castlerea Celtic beat Skyvalley Rovers 4–0 at Castlerea, but they are still 10 points behind the leaders with a game less played.
Skyvalley Rovers started well and had the majority of play in the opening 25 minutes.
However, the talented Jay McCartney struck for the hosts after a clever through ball by Kailin Barlow. An injury to John Price after 27 minutes did not help the visitors.
Kailin Barlow added a second for Castlerea with a well taken free-kick three minutes into the second-half. Castlerea added two more in the closing 10 minutes through Ja McCarthy and Dara Curran.
The first-round games in this seasons Joes Bar sponsored Challenge Cup were played on Sunday with a couple of surprise results.
Division 2 side Carrick Town beat Division 1 side Ballaghaderreen 5–3 at Ballaghaderreen. Brandon Boyce and Paul Mannion scored for the Carrick-on-Shannon side inside 12 minutes.
Leon Sinnott pulled one back for Ballaghaderreen three minutes later. However, Fursey Butler and Evan Corcoran added two more for Carrick before half-time.
Leon Sinnott and Paul Horan scored for Ballaghaderreen to leave the score 4 -3 in favour of Carrick with 19 minutes remaining.
Dylan Regan sealed a victory for Carrick five minutes later.
Moylough march on
Division 1 side Moylough continued their good run of results when they beat Roscommon United 2–1 at Roscommon.
After missing some early chances Joseph Whyte scored for Moylough after 23 minutes. Whereas, Roscommon United were on top early in the second-half but failed to take advantage.
Shane Donnellan added a second 20 minutes before the end of the game with a well struck free kick.
Marcel Gala pulled one back for United with eight minutes remaining. However, they just could not get an equaliser.
Division 1 side Kilkerrin United edged out the Ballinlough side Lugh Harps from Division 2 at Kilkerrin.
Oisin Hynes scored the only goal of the game with 86 minutes played.
In the Killeen’s Sports Fields sponsored Division 2 Castlerea Celtic second side beat Ballinagare 3–0 at Ballinagare.
This was built up as big Darby match with both sets of players knowing each other well with Celtic dominated most of the possession despite heavy conditions.
Gerry Ward opened the scoring on 20 minutes from the penalty spot after Yani Chiforiuc was brought down.
Just after half-time, Celtic conceded a soft penalty with their keeper sent-off. Ballinagare missed the resulting penalty.
Celtic continued to dominate despite being down to 10 men. After 70 minutes, Michael Conroy found Conor Murray on edge of box who calmly smashed the ball to the roof of net.
10 minutes from time, Gerry Ward wrapped up game with another penalty. to have the bragging rights in Wards house for the weekend.
The Castleplunket side C P Ajax who play in Division 1 edged out Division 2 side Rahara Rovers at Tarmon.
Rahara Rovers took the lead from the penalty spot, the C P Ajax player involved being sent-off.
Extra-time needed between Castlerea and Ballinagare
Just when it looked like Rahara had done enough to win the game Dan Connolly got an equaliser with normal time just up.
Dan Connolly scored again in the first minute of extra-time and Tadgh Jordan added their third in the second period of extra-time.
In an all Division 2 clash league leaders Glen Celtic had a comfortable 6–0 win over Moore second side.
Dyan Joyce scored his third hat-trick in three games. Darragh Keavney, Ethan Dowd and Gavin Hegarty sealed a place in the next round.
Cloonfad United from Division 1 beat Division 2 side St Cuans/Ahascragh United 5–0 at Cloonfad.
Luke Ruane and Michael McGarry had Cloonfad 2–0 up at half-time.
Whereas, the visitors were much better early in the second-half they had a player sent-off. Jack Madden and Darragh Flynn added two more for Cloonfad in the closing minutes of the game.
Boyle Celtic second side knocked fellow Division 2 side Ballyboro out of the cup when a late strike from Alfonso Sanchez was enough to end an eight-game unbeaten run by the Lanesboro side.
Connacht Women's Cup round-up
The first-round games in the Connacht Women’s Cup were played on Sunday, and it was a day of mixed fortunes for teams from the Roscommon and District League.
Boyle Celtic had an impressive 4–1 win over Ballyglass at Boyle. Ballyglass took the lead on 21 minutes but four second-half goals secured a place in round two for Boyle Celtic.
Emer Callaghan levelled the game after the break and Emma Duggan struck the Ballyglass cross bar with Sinead O’Donohoe on hand to finish the rebound.
Maeve Brogan and Sinead O’Donohoe added two more for Boyle Celtic before the end.
Shiven Rovers were beaten 3–0 at home by a very good Swinford side and Kilkerrin were unlucky to lose to a late goal from a strong Corrib Celtic side.
Castlerea Celtic beat Ballina Town 7–2 at Castlerea. A great result for the Castlerea girls. Clodagh Diggins scored four and Sarah Diggins one for the winners.
Mervue United beat Ballaghaderreen 2–1 at Mervue.
it was a game of exceptional quality. Neither team dominated, Ballaghaderreen hit the woodwork twice in the first-half but it remained 0-0 at half-time.
Mervue scored on 68 minutes, after which Ballaghaderreen started to take control of proceedings hitting the woodwork again
The Mervue keeper pulled of an amazing save from a Rebecca Finnan free kick on 80 minutes.
Mervue scored on the break, five minutes from time. Ballaghaderreen duly got some reward for their pressure on 90 minutes when Rebbecca Finan scored from the penalty spot.
