Roscommon and District League round-up 13th April 2025

An exciting finish to the Premier Division Championship lies ahead with just two points separating the top three of Boyle Celtic, St. Johns Athletic and Moore United.

While Boyle Celtic are a point ahead of St. Johns Athletic with just one game remaining.

Whereas, Moore United who are two behind Boyle, have two games remaining. They travel to Boyle Celtic and host to St. Johns Athletic in their final games.

In the top of the table clash at Boyle on Sunday the hosts edged out St. Johns athletic in an eight-goal thriller.

This was an absolute thrilling game with the outcome still in doubt as the game entered time additional time.

With St. Johns Athletic almost snatching a draw at the end of the game but Jake McCrann scored a fifth for the hosts, sealing three points.

St. Johns Athletic took the lead through a header from Darragh Kenan on 44 minutes. However, within a minute Michael Corrigan replied for Boyle Celtic with a neat header.

Corrigan struck again with seventy played and the same player completed his hat-trick two minutes later.

It brought his tally in the league alone up to 22 this season. St. Johns Athletic were quick to recover an overhead kick from Alan Duffy had them just a goal on 75 minutes.

David Callaghan headed a corner kick to the visitors net on 80 minutes.

However, Cian Kelly replied for St. Johns. The experienced Jake McCrann sealed the win for Boyle Celtic in injury time when he made it 5–3.

Moore United kept their title hopes alive when they overcame a resilient Shiven Rovers side at Newbridge.

With just two League matches remaining Moore United are still in the title race. Moore started well and created some good chances. They were rewarded when Jay McPhilbin got on the end of a corner kick to give them a 1–0 advantage.

The hosts had little to play for as they have no relegation worries and while Moore continued to dominate, they could not get past a good keeper and hard-working defence.

Moore have a home game against leaders Boyle Celtic and an away game against St. Johns Athletic in the League Championship remaining. They will play Castlerea Celtic next Sunday at Moore in the premier division cup semi-final.

Title holders Ballaghaderreen beat C P Ajax 3–0 at Ballaghaderreen and will play the team that finished second in Division 1 for a place in next seasons Premier Division.

Playing with a strong wind in the first-half Ballaghaderreen were 1–0 up at the break thanks to a Tom Ward volley.

The Castleplunket side created some good chances but failed to put the ball in the net. Liam Frain headed a second for the winner’s mid-way through the second-half. Peter Horan added a third in the last minute of the game.

Castlerea Celtic beat Ballymoe FC 4–0 at Ballymoe in a game that was of no real consequence for either side.

Castlerea Celtic raced into a 4–0 lead after just 25 minutes and that ended the game as a contest.

Chris Kelly opened the scoring, and Adam McDermott added a second. Oisin O’Farrell added two more goals.

Castlerea Celtic will now concentrate on their Premier Division Cup semi-final away to Moore United next Sunday. The winners take on Ballymoe FC or Boyle FC in the final.

In Division 1, Dunmore Town beat Glen Celtic 2–1 at Glenamaddy. Padraig Martyn and Ramann Saman scored for Dunmore. Dylan Joyce replied for Glen Celtic.

Skyvalley Rovers travelled to St. Cuans Ahascragh United and were 4–1 up with just a few minutes remaining. However, the referee abandoned the game just before the end.

David Grehan scored two and Garry Canavan one. An own goal made up their total with Ethan O’Leary replying for the hosts who were playing their last game of the season.

In Division 2, Cam Celtic/Dysart had a 2–1 win over St. Johns Athletic second side at Dysart. The Divisions leading goal scorer Gareth Mulligan scored one and Ben Moran a second for the Cam/Dysart.

St. Johns hopes of ending runners up in this Division ended with Rahara Rovers securing second spot and Cam Celtic/Dysart in third place.

Kilkerrin Women’s team look set to finish runner-up in the Women’s League following a 2–0 win over nearest challengers Dunmore Town at Dunmore.

Caitlin Boyle and Ciara Boyle scored their goals.

Congratulations are extended to the RDYSL U12 Girls representative side who reached the all-Ireland SFAI inter-league final following a thrilling win over the Limerick League at Lecarrow on Saturday.

The visitors took an early lead, but the home side were level midway through the second-half.

Only some excellent saves by the Limerick keeper kept them in the game which was not decided in normal or extra-time.

However, Paul Green’s girls gave an exhibition in the penalty shootout and scored four excellent goals with the home keeper denying the visitors on two occasions.

Good Luck to this really impressive side in the final.
