Padraig Pearses stun Corofin in Connacht

The Roscommon champions set to meet Ballinamore Sean O'Heslin

Padraig Pearses booked their place in the Connacht club semi-finals with an impressive win over Corofin.

The Galway champions were many people’s favourites for this year’s championship but fell to a 2-10 to 10 point defeat.

However, early doors it looked like it would be Corofin’s day. Darragh Silke and Dylan Canny scored a point each to open the scoring.

Eoin Colleran converted a free in response and Pearses moved into control. With 12 minutes on the clock Paul Carey rattled in a goal and with Colleran on form, Pearses where 1-6 to two points ahead.

Paul was inspirational for the Roscommon champions. Clearing a certain Corofin goal off the line.

Carey finished off the first-half scoring as Pearses led 1-8 to three points at half-time.

Pearses attack struggled in the second-half, however there defence was solid. A Carey free and Conor Harley’s fisted point had Pearses seven points ahead, entering the final 10 minutes.

Corofin staged a later come back, however it was Jack Nevin who would have the last laugh. Nevin caught goal keeper Bernard Power out of his goal.

Nevin sending the ball into the empty net and securing Pearses a meeting with Mohill in the Connacht semi-final.
