Down captain Odhran Murdock has won the PwC GAA footballer of the year month for April.

Murdock scored three points as the Mourne men beat a heavily fancied Donegal in the Ulster quarter-final.

Whereas, Waterford forward Stephen Bennett was named the PwC GAA/GPA Hurler of the month.

Bennett scored a total of 4-22 against Clare and Tipperary in the opening rounds of the Munster Hurling Championship.

His 1-10 tally against Tipperary helped secure the draw that keeps Waterford’s hopes alive; heading into this weekend’s game against Cork.

Elsewhere, Clare’s Lorna McNamara and Armagh’s Blaithin Mackin are the April winners of the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month awards for camogie and football.

Full-forward McNamara was the difference maker as Clare beat Dublin in the Centra Camogie League Division 1B Final.

Her tally of 2-6 from Clare’s 3-11 total helped the Banner women exorcise the ghosts of last year’s loss to Antrim at the same stage.

Mackin scored four points; including a superb two-pointer as Armagh opened their TG4 Ulster Senior Championship with a win against Donegal.

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns said; “It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge the first four winners of the PwC Player of the Month Awards for 2026 after a hugely entertaining period of activity for all of the Gaelic games codes.

“Clare’s Lorna McNamara enjoyed a rich vein of scoring form last month scoring 2-6 in the county’s league final win before adding eight points in a narrow defeat to Waterford in championship action.

“Blaithín Mackin shone for Armagh in their Ulster championship win over Donegal chipping in with four points.

“Odhrán Murdock’s award after his majestic display for Down against Donegal will surprise no one. Stephen Bennett’s scoring heroics for Waterford in their Ennis clash with Clare sees him singled out for the hurling accolade.

“Being honoured by your peers is always special so congratulations to all four award recipients and a special word of thanks also to the GPA and PwC who partner with us for these awards.”
