Meath bounced back from Leinster final defat to open their All-Ireland championship with a 1-13 to 12-point win over Cork.
The visitors ran up a five points to two lead after 25 minutes in heavy rain in Navan. Jordan Morris’s 31st minute goal turned the game.
Points either side of Morris’s goal from Matthew Costello and skipper Eoghan Frayne saw the Royals lead 1-5 to five-points at half-time.
Cork, landed the first two scores of the second-half through a Matty Taylor point and Colm O’Callaghan’s two-pointer to square things up.
However, Costello got the hosts motoring again and points from James Conlon, Morris and Sean Coffey made it a five-point game.
Cork never gave in, but two Costello points (1f) and one from Conlon saw Meath to a four point victory.
Roscommon who lost their opening game to Kerry last weekend, host Meath in Dr. Hyde Park on Saturday May 31st.
