Mayo landed their first Connacht U20 title since 2018 in a pulsating victory over Roscommon in Tuam.
A six goal thriller as Roscommon fought back to the very death before losing out 2-17 to 4-8.
Seamus Howard rattled in a goal on the eighth minute and Mayo were steaming away 1-3 to one point. Things got worse for Roscommon as free's from Lydon, Darragh Beirne, Lydon and Niall Hurley moved Mayo 1-7 one point ahead.
Rory Carthy grabbed Roscommon's first score in 18 minutes with a two-pointer. Carthy turned the game on its head 60 seconds later as he raced through the Mayo defence for a goal.
Brian Greene made it a three-point game with six minutes to half-time.
Niall Hurley responded with a point, only for the Mayo defence to split in half and John McGuinness raced home to smash in a goal.
Colm McCabe kept Mayo motoring with a point a minute before half-time and seconds later Darragh Beirne rattled in Mayo's second goal of the day.
However, Roscommon werent undone as John McGuinness fired in Roscommon's third goal as the Mayo defence opened up again.
An amazing final few moments of the half as Mayo led 2-9 to 3-4 at half-time. Mayo started brightly in the second-half. Lydon and O’Louighlin moving Mayo four ahead seven minutes after the restart. Brian Greene landed the Rossies first score of the half on 40 minutes.
The Roscommon comeback
A Rory Carthy free brought it back to two points a minute later. Darragh Beirne and Carthy exchange points before Colm McHale moved Mayo three points clear on 49 minutes.
Indeed, Roscommon pulled level with nine minutes to play. Carthy aiming for a goal with Rob Henehan’s boot sending the ball into the net leaving the game all square, 19 points to 19.
Mayo recovered well in the closing four minutes, McHale, Darragh Neary and Beirne moving Mayo 2-16 to 4-7 ahead. Conor Grogan made it a two-point game bang on 60 minutes.
A dramatic four minutes was added with Roscommon getting the ball into the net, alas, the referee ruled it out for a square ball.
Tom Lydon sealed the victory with a point as 60 seconds remained on the clock. It was Mayo’s day as they won out 2-17 to 4-8.
