Longford Phoenix U-14 Girls crowned All-Ireland ‘C’ champions

The Phoenix Under-14 Girls competed in the All-Ireland Club Championships at the weekend and they came home with the All-Ireland ‘C’ title.

They were in a very tough group four-team group against some national heavyweights. Which, included the Limerick Celtics, the Limerick Huskies and Kilkenny

They lost all their group games and were entered in the All-Ireland “C” grade.

In the quarter-final, Phoenix beat North Star of Derry 29-14. That was followed that up with victory over Clare Cobras by 22-16 in the semi-final.

In the final, they faced Maree of Galway and it was a nail-biting contest that took three periods of extra-time to separate the sides.

It finished 26 all at full-time. They were still level at the end of the first period of extra-time with the teams deadlocked on 28 points each.

The second period of extra-time could not separate them as they were still tied at 30 points each. An amazing and exhausting final eventually ended in victory by 35-21 for the Longford girls.

It has been an amazing season for the team as they were also crowned LLR League Champions and Midlands Top Four winners before last week and just a few days before the All-Ireland Club Championships, they edged out Mohill by a single point to also win the LLR Top Four Final.

Senior ladies & senior men

The Ladies Senior team lost a close, hard fought Midlands League contest at home to Tullamore with the visitors eventually winning by 61-57.

On Saturday night in the LLR top four semi-final, the Ladies lost to Mohill by 51-42. The Senior Men’s team were victorious in their LLR plate final after beating Ballyhaunis.

Under-18 girls & boys

The Phoenix U-18 Girls team just came up short in their Quadruple bid. They had already won the Midland’s League and the Midlands Cup, and the LLR League.

Although they beat Ballyroan Bluestars 42-28, in the Midlands League Top four semi-final, they lost the final against Portlaoise by seven points.

The U-18 Boys took the LLR top four title with a comprehensive 97-40 victory over Ballinamore in Mohill.

Indeed, captain Kelvin Adeosun top-scored with 18 points. Whereas, Christian McGerr was named MVP of the game and he also contributed 16 points.

U-16 girls & boys

The Phoenix U-16 boys white team were crowned LLR League Champions after they beat Ballinamore Blazers by 65-51 in the final.

They reached the final after beating Boyle comprehensively in the semi-final.

Under-14 Boys

Our U-14 Boys lost their LLR Top four semi-final to Boyle.
