Leitrim county board chairman Declan Bohan says steps have been taken to prevent a repeat of Leitrim surrendering a national league game.
Indeed, Leitrim conceded their league game with Fermanagh, citing a lack of available players.
“It was a very difficult time" explained Bohan. The county chair went on, "It was a low point in terms of you know for everybody".
“It was a low point for the pIayers; It was a low point for Leitrim in general it was a low point for officials it was a low point for those of us that were dealing with it”.
Indeed. “It wasn't easy watching and listening to the narrative that was going on and you know I felt it was important to address it here” Bohan explained.
“We are wrapping up the year and to point out forthrightly, in a forthright manner, that we learnt lessons from it as well.
“You know, if things were to be done again, they might have been done somewhat differently” Bohan explained.
Indeed, Bohan continued; “Perhaps we might have, with the benefit of hindsight, had greater foresight around what was coming around our table”.
Steps taken that it doesnt happen in the future
“But it certainly wasn't something that, you know, we felt that we sleepwalked into, so to speak”.
“These things just happened. Unfortunately, we were caught on unawares. It happened. It was very unfortunate”.
“You know, there were a lot of opinions as regards what we could have done from that Friday to that Sunday” Bohan added.
“A lot of them were largely absurd”. “It wasn't just going to be possible to achieve that. And unfortunately, it was the low point of the year as far as I'm concerned in my year as chairman”.
“It wasn't a place that I would like to revisit at all and I don't intend to.
“And that's why I referenced that the learnings from it were very important and we've taken steps to ensure it doesn't happen in the future”.
