Seamus Coleman will remain at Everton beyond the end of this season, according to manager David Moyes.
The 36-year-old defender's current contract expires in June. Having struggled with injuries this season, Coleman only making five appearances for the club.
"I need him here" explained Moyes. "His leadership, his sort of message he has amongst the players and in the dressing room is so strong. It would be wrong of me to let him go.
"Seamus is a lit bit more than player here” added Moyes. “I think in some ways he’s carried Everton a little bit”.
Everton play their last game in Goodison Park when they host Southampton on Sunday. They will move to a new stadium for next season.
Whereas, Coleman has been recalled to the Ireland squad for friendlies with Senegal on Friday, June 6 and Luxembourg on Tuesday, June 10.
