Greene recorded two wins at the national Olympic trials

Darragh Greene was beaming have recorded two victories at the national Olympic trials but is focused on getting an Irish relay team to Tokyo 2020.

The Longford man has the qualification standards for the 100m and 200m Breaststroke in Tokyo but was moving on quickly for his first races of 2021.

“I was delighted to be back racing again” beamed Greene. “It was just great to be back, getting the two wins was really just a bonus”.

“We were doing so much training during the lockdown but you can’t really beat the experience of a competition in itself”.

Greene took 200m Breaststroke victory on Saturday posting 2:10.40 in an epic race with Eoin Corby, winning out by just a tenth of a second, but wasn’t dwelling on the win.

“The main goal was just trying to execute race scenarios and going faster through the rounds” explained Greene,” which is exactly what I did, that was good!”

“Now it’s just really heads down for the European’s in Budapest in three weeks’ time, that’s all about securing qualification for the relays at the Olympics”.

The Longford man will next be in action at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary from May 17th – 23rd.
