Roscommon produced an incredible comeback to seal a place in the All-Ireland minor semi-final after extra-time.
Roscommon scored a 1-19 to 2-15 win after extra-time over Louth in Kingspan Breffni, taking the lead for the first time in extra-time.
Louth bossed the first-half and deservedly led eight points to six at half-time in a thriller in Cavan. A Connell Kelly 45 opening the scoring on eight minutes.
Luke Shally equalised two minutes later only for Kelly and Jack Martin to move Louth three points to one ahead on 15 minutes.
Sam Hannon sent over Roscommon’s second point on 16 minutes with Kelly converting a two-pointer free for Louth. Dean Casey scored from play and a free either side of Louth’s Andrew O’Reilly.
Diarmuid Higgins made a one point game with four minutes remaining in the half. Cillian McQuillian responded with a Louth two-pointer.
Rossies captain Dara Curran grabbing the last point of the half as Louth led eight points to six at half-time.
The Leinster runners up moved five points clear four minutes after the restart. A Kelly converted a two-pointer free and Tom Maguire added one.
Dara Curran scored Roscommon’s first point of the second-half on 40 minutes. John Price and Sam Hannon two-pointer made it a one point game, two minutes later.
Cillian McQuillian and Michael McGlew moved Louth three points clear. A Sam Hannon two-pointer closed the gap with three minutes to go. Oisin Reidy made 14 points to 12 with 60 seconds remaining.
However, Roscommon weren’t done. Shane McGuinness and a Dara Curran point a minute into injury time, sent the game to extra-time. The game finishing 14-points each after normal time.
Roscommon fight back to force extra-time
Louth struck first and hard in extra-time. McGlew racing through the Roscommon defence for a goal.
Dara Curran struck back immediately with an important point. Indeed, the young Rossies showed again their fighting spirit.
Luke Shally landed an all important goal on 69 minutes putting Roscommon 1-15 to 1-14 ahead. The first time Roscommon had led all game. Diarmuid O’Higgins added on a point as the rossies led 1-16 to 1-14 at half-time.
However, Louth started the second period as they had the first. This time Jack Martin snuck a ball into the Roscommon net to put Louth back in front.
Shalley levelled the game before Hannon restored Roscomon’s lead with six minutes remaining. Andrew O’Reilly levelled the game up two minutes later.
Then up stepped Dara Curran to land his fourth point of the game and seal victory for Roscommon 1-19 to 2-15.
Roscommon will now meet Tyrone in the All-Ireland MFC semi-final.
