Cian McPhillips has decided to miss next month’s World indoor championships in Torun, Poland.
The Longford athlete had intended to race at the championships and was considered as a medal contender.
However, having with drawn from the Milrose Games 800m due to a dental issue, McPhillips has now decided to focus on his outdoor season.
The 23-year-old underwent a procedure for the dental issue, which he is now recovered from. However, has decided to cut short his indoor season, needing the World championship standard by March eighth.
The Longford man will not take part at this weekend’s national indoor championship, making Mark English as favourite for the 800m title.
Indeed, McPhillips turns his attention to the European championships in Birmingham this August 10th-16th. The Longford man is currently ranked 13th in the World and fourth European.
