Castlerea crowned Roscommon Challenge Cup Champions
Victory over Dunmore Town on Saturday evening seen them claim the silverware.
The opening 20 minutes were very cautious for both sides with the remainder of the game more free flowing.
Holly Hopkins was first up to test the Dunmore keeper after 23 minutes. Nicola Kilgarriff opened the scoring for Dunmore with a well struck free kick with 29 minutes played.
Approaching half-time Meara Stephenson was quickest to react to a loose ball in the Dunmore penalty area and volleyed to the corner of the net.
Indeed, the turning point of the game came 55 minutes in.
Castlerea keeper Clodagh Diggins made two good saves in quick succession to deny Aoife Smyth and Nicola Kilgarriff. Three minutes later Castlerea broke and scored at the other end.
A Reece Higgins corner kick was met by Meara Stephenson who headed the ball to the Dunmore net.
Dunmore piled on the pressure in the final 10 minutes but some desperate defending from Aine Keenan, Sarah Diggins and Eilidh Murr keeping them in front until the final whistle.
Afterwards League Chairman David Kelly presented the cup to the Castlerea Celtic Captain Sarah Diggins.
