Aoife O’Rourke has been awarded the highest level of sports funding for 2025.
The Castlerea boxer, silver medallist at this month’s World championships, has been awarded €40,000 for 2025.
O’Rourke is one for 15 boxers to be awarded international carding scheme funding with O’Rourke awarded the podium standard of €40,000. However, there was no funding awarded to Lisa O'Rourke.
Also awarded podium funding is two time Olympic champion Kellie Harrington and boxer Shannon Sweeney. A total of €450,000 has been awarded to boxing.
Whereas, Longford swimmer Darragh Greene, has been awarded the international standard of €18,000. Indeed, Greene was one of 14 swimmers to be awarded grants.
Olympic medallists Daniel Wiffen and Moan McSharrey where both awarded the maximum podium grant of €40,000.
In 2025, Sport Ireland will invest €4.5m under the international carding scheme and the player funding scheme. This will support 129 athletes and 11 relays/pool funding across 16 sports.
Whereas, an allocation of €450,000 will be allocated to Hockey Ireland to support players in its senior men and senior women’s teams.
