Andy Moran has been installed as joint favourite to replace Kevin McStay as Mayo manager.
All-star Moran is currently coach of the Monaghan senior team who face Donegal in Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter-final. Whereas, former Leitrim boss is listed at 7/4 with James Horan and Austin O’Malley.
Indeed, the two time all-star managed Leitrim from 2022-24, bringing Leitrim to Allianz league division four promotion in 2024.
Whereas, current Roscommon manager Davy Burke is listed at 12/1 with Armagh coach Kieran Donaghy at 14/1.
“Punters clearly aren’t against the idea of a sensational return for James Horan, but Austin O’Malley and Andy Moran bring a fresh set of credentials so this one could go right down to the wire." Said Boylesports Lawerence Lyons
McStay’s three year term in charge of the Mayo senior team came to an end last night after a Mayo county board meeting. McStay took a leave of absence from the senior team management on May 26.
A statement issued by Mayo county board on Wednesday evening read;
"A Coiste Bainistíocht Meeting of Mayo GAA was held in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this evening, Wednesday 25th of June.
At this meeting a decision was made to relieve Kevin McStay and his management team from their roles with the Mayo Senior Football Team with immediate effect.
We would like to sincerely thank Kevin and his management team for their time, effort, and commitment to the Mayo Senior Football Team during their tenure. Their dedication to the players and the jersey has been greatly appreciated by all involved with Mayo GAA.
